Create a Backup

Level: Beginner

As you may know, it is necessary to keep backups of everything, and online game servers are not different. When opening a game server to the public, anyone can make changes to the servers game world. Hence why, some precautions should be taken.

It is important to back up your data, as it allows you to restore your server to a previous point where the backup was taken.

How to Backup your server

  • Locate the Inventory tab in the dashboard, to see a complete view of your servers.

  • Find the server you want to backup, and click on the name of it to open.

  • On the newly opened server, navigate to the Backups tab.

  • Once you have navigated to the Backups page, you will be presented with three options
    • User Backups
    • System Backups
    • Legacy Backups
  • These are used to run different backups on demand. Our main focus is on the User Backups.

User Backups

  • Here, you can see a list of backups that you have previously created after the new system change, if your backups are not visible here, try looking from Legacy Backups.
  • By clicking on the Create Backup, you are able to backup your server.
  • If you have reached the limit to your backups, you will have to delete a backup.
  • To create a backup, press the Create Backup button, and confirm the creation with the Create button in the popup after.

  • To restore to a previously made backup, press the Restore button.
    • Take care when restoring, as the option to delete all current files is available.
  • To delete the backup select the red Delete button.
  • If you want to download the backup to your local machine, select the purple Download button, to start downloading the backup.
  • The remaining Lock button, can be used to lock a backup from being deleted unless one decides to later Unlock the backup from the same button.

System Backups

  • These are Backups that are created for you automatically periodically, whether or not you wanted to. These Backups will be stored externally, so they don’t take up space from you.
  • Here you can choose between restoring or downloading the file. The process works the same way as with User Backups.

Legacy Backups

  • These are backups that you have made in the past, before our recent system upgrade.
  • Backups stored under Legacy Backups can be used as before, but they will be wiped in the future! If you want the files to be kept, take a local copy of the backups when you can.

Automated Backups

  • To automate the backup process, you would want to look in to creating a schedule to backup your server periodically.
