How to pre-generate your Minecraft server chunks

Level: Intermediate

pre-generating chunks and pre-generating a world in Minecraft can help to reduce lag and make the gameplay smoother. This is extra helpful for servers that plan to have multiple people playing and exploring at the same time. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do it with the help of Chunky.

Pre-grenerating your chunks with the Chunky Minecraft plugin

For this tutorial, you will need to install a plugin called Chunky on your server.

Step 1: Go to your inventory

  • Go to your UltraServers Inventory/dashboard.

Step 2: Click on Manage server on the server you want to pre-generate

  • When in your inventory, click the Manage button to go to the advanced view of your server.

Step 4: Go to the console and run commands

  • First, type chunky shape circle this is the default shape for pre-generating chunks.
  • Next, chose your world, type chunky world world this will select the overworld in Minecraft.
  • Finally, set your radius of chunks that you want pre-generated by typing chunky radius 1000.
  • Now, you can type chunky start this will start loading process and, if at any time you need to stop the generating, you can type chunky pause.

Typing a radius above 10,000 will likely cause the command to run for more than 20 hours. Loading a radius of 1000-5000 is the max recommended at a time. The radius given is the amount of chunks loaded in each direction.

Step 5: Keep an eye on your console updates

  • Now that you have run all the correct commands, you must wait for the chunk to finish generating.
  • Your console will post updates of the percentage done of the chunk loading.
  • When it reaches 100% you are ready to play!
